'Whisker Squadron: Survivor', an Arcade Shooter Made with Love

Hey everyone! It's your lad, Galaxy Gaymer!

There's something about a good old arcade styled game that just feels so natural to play. These games bring that level of nostalgia that so many of us crave regularly, and sometimes they can even be some of the best and most underrated games on the market. These games are addictive in the best way.

Whisker Squadron: Survivor is an amazing roguelike arcade style shooter where the aim is to fight off waves of enemies that are bugs with cats as your main fighters. The cats are in space fighter ships, and you get to upgrade and improve your abilities as you go to get stronger. Although it sounds super easy and straightforward, it really isn't, and that's why I loved it.

I found Whisker Squadron: Survivor to be quite charming for what it is. Although the fighting itself could be a little overwhelming at times, that was always overshadowed by the sheer simplistic yet beautiful style in which the game has been made. This game clearly had a lot of love put into it, and it shows because it was truly a pleasure to play from the very first second I launched it.

Whisker Squadrons: Survivor is the perfect game for all arcade shooter lovers. I found myself just fully lost in this game until 100%ing it, and I have absolutely no regrets at all. It was such a fun experience to work my way through, and I just couldn't recommend it enough. This is a must have.

'Otherwar', a Fresh Take on Tower Defense

Hey everyone! It's your lad, Galaxy Gaymer!

There's something about chaos in gaming that is so necessary. Some of the best games are as amazing as they are because they bring this beautiful level of chaos that can make us entranced. These games almost give us a much-needed adrenaline or energy boost at times, and that's why they amazing.

Otherwar is an incredible game that is a cross between a tower defense and bullet hell. You have to play the role of a defender angel who needs to fight the hordes of enemies from hell. Although you can use many different options to fight against the hordes, the angel itself can also fend off the enemies.

While Otherwar may sound a little confronting at first, having to use elements from both tower defense and bullet hell is a lot smoother than expected. I feel like overall it's a super chaotic game, but it is just so quickly addicting. I also absolutely love the style of the game; it easily makes the game both more approachable and just generally comfortable to play.

I recommend Otherwar for tower defense lovers specifically. I feel like the addition of more than just the average tower defense mechanics is so refreshing and welcome. It feels like such a fresh take on both genres it covers, and I found myself playing countless hours of it this past month. This is a must have.

What is your favourite tower defense game? Comment down below! Also, a huge shoutout to Hyperstange for sending me a copy of the game to review! I had a lot of fun with this one!

'Scappage' is Unforgivingly Fun

Hey everyone! It's your lad, Galaxy Gaymer!

There's something so simplistically exciting about a good old twin stick shooter. It's such a retro styled mechanic in shooters, but when used correctly it is just so timeless. I also truly believe that there are so many newer twin sticks shooters that just stand out so well among the rest, all while still having that feeling of nostalgia we know and love.

Scrappage is an incredible new twin stick shooter with roguelike elements. This game is set in the scarily not too distant future, and it is probably the most difficult game within the twin stick genre to date. The aim of the game is simple on paper, avoid death, but the chances of dying are so regular that this objective may simply just be impossible for most.

Scrappage is unforgiving in each level, when you think you're about to finish it, more often than not the boss at the end of the level says otherwise. Although, I would be lying if I didn't say this game is delightful visually. Although it may sit on the grim line between virtual reality and actual reality, I really love the style of this game. It just drew me in from the second I started playing it, and I quickly become obsessed. The upgrades that make your character customizable are also really amazing and I feel the completionist in me yearning to 100% the game still.

I highly recommend Scrappage to anyone who loves the retro style of twin stick shooters, but really need a new challenge in their life. This game is a lot of gameplay for what is essentially the same price as a coffee, and quality-wise it is miles above that, it's such a steal.

'Slime Rancher 2', the Perfect Sequel

Hey everyone! It's your lad, Galaxy Gaymer!

There's something so beautiful about when a sequel is as amazing as an original game. It allows fans of the games to keep playing a game they love, and it means the developers can get even more love and appreciation for all of their hard work. The game I'm about to talk about is easily the personification of a sequel done right.

Slime Rancher 2 is the second entry to the already amazing franchise. Whilst the first Slime Rancher was incredible in its own right, there's just this new and rejuvenating feeling that comes with the new game. It has all the slimes and gameplay mechanics that we have all grown to know and love, while still adding even more incredible content and friends to capture.

I am still an extremely biased lover of the phosphor slimes, but the batty slimes maybe be the most adorable addition to the game. All these new features are also complimented so well by the whimsical world that has been created for Slime Rancher 2. While the first game was stunning in itself, this game in my opinion is even more beautiful and exciting. There's just something about it that drew me in even faster.

I recommend Slime Rancher 2 for not just lovers of the original game, but also people who want to try the franchise out. It's such a beautiful addition to anyone's collection of games and it quickly becomes a addictive for all that play it. It's also the kind of game that made me love it instantly upon seeing a close friend stream it when it first came out. I can't wait to see what the full release of the game brings us.

What is your favourite sequel? Comment down below! Also, a huge thank you to Monomi Park for sending me a review copy of the game! It's easily one of the best games I've played in a long time!

'Zellige: The Tilemaker of Granada' is Pure Bliss

Hey everyone! It's your lad, Galaxy Gaymer!

There's something about a nice relaxing game that can be so rejuvenating. They're not only great games in their own right, but they're a fantastic way for some gamers to just take a break from the average shooters that so many of us are addicted to. I also find relaxing games can be the most subtly addictive types of games.

Zellige: The Tilemaker of Granada is an extremely cozy historical game where you play a tilemaker. You get to use your own creativity to create beautiful tile patterns in an Islamic style. This is all to help decorate a merchant family's palace.

From the second I started playing Zellige: The Tilemaker of Granada, I was instantly entranced by it. The creative feedom of the game is brilliant, I found myself playing endless hours of it as soon as I received it, and it was insanely hard to put it down. It may not be the most action packed game, but it's by far one of the most simplistic games I've had the pleasure of playing.

Zellige: The Tilemaker of Granada is the perfect game to unwind to. I believe gamers of all demographics could enjoy it, and it's bound to hook even the most stressed out of people. This game is just pure bliss and it would be a mistake not to get it for yourself.

What is your favourite relaxing game? Comment down below! Also, a huge thank you to Hoopoe Games LTD for sending me a review copy of this game! It's so brilliant and I'm in love with it.

'Iris and the Giant', a Console Port Fit for Royalty

Hey everyone! It's your lad, Galaxy Gaymer!

There's something just so beautiful about amazing games being ported to other platforms. It not only allows the games to get some usually much deserved exposure, but it also means a wider audience can fall in love with a game that others have already fallen in love with. Today does this, all while being a full circle moment for myself.

Iris and the Giant is a beautiful yet sombre game that I reviewed all the way back in March 2020, and it has just blessed Xbox and Playstation consoles with a port. It is a beautiful collection card game with rpg and roguelike elements where you uncover parts of Iris' past, and you discover in-depth recollection of her memories bit by bit.

I could say it a million times and it still be true, but Iris and the Giant is one of the most stunningly minimalistic games that has come to consoles in recent years. I knew this game would absolutely thrive on any platform is appears on, and it is by far one of the smoothest ports I have played. The atmosphere and general melancholic vibe just feels so peaceful yet dark, and playing this game again just made me fall in love with it all over again. The art style may be a huge highlight of it, but the deck building is by far my favourite part of Iris and the Giant. Getting to build up your strength is such a fun experience, and I couldn't put it down for days on end.

I highly recommend Iris and the Giant to anyone that hasn't played it in general. Replaying it was like seeing a loved one for the first time in a long time, and I just feel like anyone could find something to love within this game. It's a must have, on PC or console. This is a port done perfectly.

What is your favourite recent port that has been released? Comment down below! Also, a huge thank you to Klabater for sending me a copy of the game to review, it's as amazing as I remember!

'Hitman: Freelancer', DLC Done Right

Hey everyone! It's your lad, Galaxy Gaymer!

There's something so satisfying about playing a game where you can be the complete opposite to who you are in real life. The Hitman series has always been the perfect example of this. It not only embodies exciting and trailblazing gameplay that so many have grown to know and love.

While Hitman 3 was already a phenomenal game since release, the new Freelancer DLC has managed to make it somehow even more incredible. Hitman: Freelancer is a single player mode where there are many roguelike elements where you need to plan strategically. The cherry on top of what is already an amazing mode has to be the customizable safehouse, that was my personal favourite part of it.

Hitman: Freelancer is stated to utilize the best parts of the Hitman trilogy according to IO Interactive, and I couldn't agree more. This DLC is the embodiment of all the best parts of the series as a whole, and it just drew me in so fast. Personally, my favourite part was the safehouse customization, I am a sucker for any customization, so this was perfect for this DLC. I also love how it felt like a complete DLC and it definitely was far from half-assed like many games have these days. It just instantly reignited my love for a franchise that is quite frankly amazing and underrated.

I can honestly recommend Hitman: Freelancer to anyone. This is such a definitive DLC for the franchise, and I think it perfectly embodies everything positive and fun about all past games. This DLC truly hit different in the best way, and I have been playing it nonstop since receiving it. Do yourself a favor, get Hitman 3 with the Hitman: Freelancer DLC as soon as you can.

What platform will you be buying Hitman: Freelancer on? Comment down below! Also, a massive thank you to IO Interactive for sending me a review key for the game. It made me fall in love with the franchise again and I appreciate it so much.

Have a nice day!
